The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane Review

Sephora: $7.90 CAD (30ml)

My skin type | Dry/Combo: dry patches and itchiness due to eczema, prone to breakouts, normal otherwise

What is it?

A moisturizing serum composed of 100% pure squalane serum with no other ingredients to list. It is vegan, cruelty-free, alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and every other good thing under the sun. Like other Ordinary products, it’s set at an extremely affordable price.

Squalane is a skin-conditioner naturally found in your skin, but decreases as you age. If you have dry skin, you definitely want to read on.

My thoughts

The Ordinary’s squalane is my go-to face oil. With continued use, it hydrates and retains moisture so that dry patches and flaky skin stay away. Apply it as part of your last step(s) after water-based treatments.

I have found this to be a comfortable oil to use day and night, although it absorbs slowly in my experience. When I apply it alone, it takes a while for it to sink in and leaves a bit left to just sit on my skin, so I avoid applying it alone. I prefer to mix and apply 1-2 drops with a moisturizer so it absorbs faster and more comfortably. This way, I avoid the leftover grease.

It also makes a great lip moisturizer when my lips are dry and chapped. It takes about a day or two for me to see the change taking place, but over time with consistent use, I have noticed my skin gets dry far less often and stays hydrated longer.

This is a product I always make sure to have on hand, and at the price, it’s very doable.

Thanks for reading ❤
